BBQ Attire

Saturday, June 28, 2014

I feel like last year if I had decided to host a BBQ at my place (well, I didn't have a place, so that wouldn't have happened, but hypothetically) I would have thrown on a pair of jeans and a sweatshirt and life would have been good. Lately however, if you haven't noticed, my wardrobe has been transitioning into more girly, effeminate pieces, and I'm finally feeling right in my clothes. When my hair was super short because I was stubborn and wanted white hair, whether or not it melted off my ends (wow yep, that's me) I wore a lot of punkier outfits to try and fit my hair, but I felt it was more of a costume than me, see here or here. Don't get me wrong, it was a super fun time, and I am never getting rid of my leopard coat, but what I've come to realize is that I feel the more me in the things I've been wearing lately. When I put on the shorts I found at Forever 21 with little birdies on them and got ready for the day, I looked at myself and just felt so happy! I thought for a moment that Michael wouldn't like them because they're more old fashioned in the cut and not skin tight like a lot of other things I own or that are in style right now (no I don't want my pockets to stick out of my shorts thank you, I prefer underwear that aren't denim), but when I stepped out into the living room, before I could even say anything he said how much he loved them and the way they were cut! I really need to get out of my head about things like that. I get weirdly afraid that maybe he won't like the directions I take my wardrobe in, but today after another visit to Hot Toddy for a dress for the wedding I'm going to tomorrow (last minute, as always) I mentioned that I just want to stick with the girlier direction I've been going in because it just suits me, he remarked how he remembered I said I felt out of place in punkier things and he absolutely loves when I wear dresses and old fashioned or retro things. I was so happy. Guys, he's perfect right? So here it is, the me that I am sticking with, because it's who I really am under it all. I am a happy person, striving to be nice to everyone, and to bring a little sunshine to this often rainy state. My clothes should reflect that I think. It makes me feel better and I love that. To officially kick off this (even though it's been in progress already haha) here is a gorgeous yellow (my fav color!) dress I got from Urban Outfitters back when it was still pouring rain and I was about to leave for Ireland, because I would have died if it was gone when I got back.

Whew. Sorry for all the words! Here's what I wore for a housewarming/BBQ we had at our new place!

Sorry for the super lost text chunk this time guys! I just like to share as much as possible with y'all! It ended up raining during the end of our BBQ so I did put on some cropped skinnies and a sweatshirt after all, but it was still a great time either way! I didn't take too many photos because I was socializing and eating, but I'll stick one at the end of this all of M using the grill for your viewing pleasure. Also, I just realized he wore a yellow shirt this day, we matched! Haha, totally unplanned, I assure you. I'm just happy he's slowly wearing more color. I'll have him out of that monotones wardrobe yet!

Yes he's using his hands, if you're curious. I died a little inside, I promise you, but the food was good and the company even better, so it was all worth it.
