The First Trimester

Friday, December 18, 2015

While I am determined not to have my blog turn into one entirely consistent of baby talk, I think it would also be ridiculous to continue only posting outfits photos and glossing over the fact that I am pregnant. I aim for balance. I still want to keep you updated on my life, which of course means a spattering of preggo talk, but I'll also still be doing outfits photos whenever I have the chance, and I have a few photoshoots to share with you at some point as well. If you're not into it, that's chill. Don't read it. I won't be offended. Before I found I was pregnant I didn't care to read other women's pregnant posts. I couldn't relate. So I totally get it, and still love you if you're like, "Ugh whatever who isn't pregnant right now?"

Today I want to talk about my first trimester. (Which I still can't believe is already over!) At first I planned to do a really long and detailed post on all I've been going through, but instead Michael and I just filmed a little vlog where we run everything down for you. We forgot a few things, but it covers most of it, and I happen to think it's more entertaining than reading about all my experiences.

Here's a breakdown for those not into videos, and some things I forgot to mention:
  • Pee
  • Exhaustion
  • Memory problems
  • Supreme clumsiness
  • Super nausea
  • Cravings for watermelon
  • Mood swings
  • Pee
  • Bloated looking
  • Cramps
  • Backache
  • Dry mouth
  • Breakouts
  • Super smell
  • Pee
  • Zero sex drive
  • Pee

Some things that I find particularly odd are:
  • Brushing my teeth made me gag so violently I had to switch to Tom's cinnamon and clove toothpaste. This helps most days.
  • I slur my words a lot now. Pregnancy brain to the extreme. It's very irritating. I also drop everything. Even things I'm not holding. How this is possible, I am not sure.
  • Insanely vivid dreams. Like, graphic, violent dreams. Disturbing dreams. For example, last night I had a dream some guy was shooting at me, only to be stopped by a dear friend jumping on him and sacrificing himself. Then I looked down and saw my belly had been shot and ran around the crowded dream screaming and crying for someone to help save my baby. No one moved. Also, a lot of sexual dreams involving Michael, even though anything more than a hug has ben repulsive to me.
  • I have been extra emotional about things. This is something I didn't think possible because I am an extremely emotional person already. Sometimes I get emotional looking at Chai and want to cry because she's so loving and fluffy. One time I cried because Michael said something nice. It is ridiculous.

Basically, pregnancy is crazy. Michael and I are really excited to meet the little bean sprout. We're both hoping for a girl, but will love it no matter what it is or wants to be. And yes, we will be finding out what gender it is (in three weeks!). Don't ask me for my baby names. I've given them out to too many people and now I'm paranoid about sharing them anymore, haha. Please feel free to ask any questions, or share your own experience, or tell me if you like egg nog. Whatever. Love you guys.

  1. Oh my goodness, you and Michael are hilarious together. And it always surprises me how deep Michael's voice is (I've seen... something where he spoke, maybe instagram video?). Also, how sarcastic he is, and that outro. HAH! "I don't. I don't know you, so..."

Yes, gaining only 4-6 pounds is SO good! They say pregnant women should gain a pound for every week, so up to 40lbs gained is healthy, but less than that is good too. I hate the beginning when you just feel bloated and not pregnant! Hopefully that little bean sprout starts showing more so you can feel pregnant. ;)
I had really weird dreams, too, the violence AND the sex ones. Pregnancy dreams are so, so strange! I think a lot of mine were like... my belly would be shot, or the baby would b e born and someone would kill her, or... the one non violent one I had where she was born and her body was a bird and her head was an old homeless man's head. I woke up CONVINCED that we'd had the baby for like two minutes before my brain reminded me that having a bird body and a homeless man's head was really ridiculous. lol.

You guys are cute. I'm so excited for this baby of yours! <3

    1. Michael's voice, am I right? Not going to lie, it was one of the things that initially attracted me to him, sadly now I'm so used to it I don't even notice how deep it is. Tragic. When we were in Arizona two years ago to see my family, my uncle freaked out on the phone because he thought I was bringing some 40 year old guy to meet him, hahaha.

Also, your dream, oh my goodness. I laughed so hard I cried. Although I can totally see how in dream world that would be the scariest freaking thing ever. I often wake up horrified and try to explain something to M only to realize how utterly ridiculous and non-scary it sounds outside of the context of the dream.

  2. I LOVE this! I am so on the pregnancy train as in share more! I'd love to see updates like this. The video was too cute! I love how sarcastic Michael is. "I am wearing pants." HAHA!

    1. So good to know you're down with more sharing, because I realized it's really hard to separate something actively happening to my life/body from my blog about my life (wow Mariah, duh).
And Michael is too funny. We are both really sarcastic to each other, but he hams himself up so much whenever he's on camera. It is too funny.
